Honey is a remarkable natural substance that remains edible for thousands of years due to a unique combination of factors. Archaeologists have even discovered pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are still technically safe to consume.
Why Honey Lasts Forever:
- Low Moisture Content: Honey is naturally hygroscopic, meaning it contains very little water, which prevents bacteria and microorganisms from surviving.
- High Acidity: With a pH level typically between 3 and 4.5, the acidity effectively inhibits the growth of most spoilage-inducing organisms.
