Did you know honey never expires in your pantry?

The Science of Liquid Gold

Honey is one of the few natural foods that can technically remain edible for millennia. This phenomenon occurs due to three specific properties:

  • Low Moisture Content: Honey is hygroscopic, meaning it contains very little water, making it nearly impossible for bacteria or microorganisms to survive.
  • Natural Acidity: With a pH typically between 3 and 4.5, honey acts as an acidic barrier against spoilage.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide: Bees produce an enzyme called glucose oxidase, which releases hydrogen peroxide, further preventing microbial growth.

Proper Storage Techniques

While honey does not spoil, it can change texture. If the honey crystallizes, simply place the jar in a warm water bath to return it to a liquid state. Always store honey in a cool, dry place with a tightly sealed lid to ensure it maintains its premium quality for decades to come.
